The Serbia Education Improvement Project

The Serbia Education Improvement Project was approved by the World Bank’s Board on May 2, 2002 and became effective on August 6, 2002. It is scheduled to close on December 31, 2006. The total Credit amount is SDR 8.0 million.

The project has five components:


  1. School Improvement Grants (original cost estimated at $5.66 million)
  2. Standards and Assessment Development ($2.15 million)
  3. Education Information System ($2.66 million)
  4. Education Decentralization ($1.10 million)
  5. Project Management ($0.6 million)


Details of the original design are in the Project Appraisal Document (dated March 27, 2002).

A mid-term review for this Project was reported in March, 2005. A revised set of project indicators was prepared following this review.

The objectives of the October 2005 visit by the consultant Eric Pedersen were to advise the World Bank on the progress that the Project has made in the third and fourth components since the mid-term review and against the revised performance indicators.


A follow-up visit will be undertaken in May 2006.
