The Bosnia and Herzegovina Education Reform Project

World Bank

The Bosnia and Herzegovina Education Reform Project was approved by the World Bank’s Board in June, 2005 and became effective in April 2007. It is scheduled to close in July, 2010. The total Credit amount is SDR 6.7 million, which is projected to be equivalent to $US10 million.

The project has three components:

  1. Secondary Education Grants Program ($US 5 million). This includes provision of grants to support secondary curriculum reform.
  2. Education Finance and Management ($US 4 million). This includes work on the development of new formula financing models for schools within each educational jurisdiction and development of an early childhood module for the Education Management Information System.
  3. Project Implementation ($1 million)

Details of the project design can be found in the Project Appraisal Document. (dated May 18, 2005).

Eric Pedersen completed a report (May 2007), which provides comment on the initial phase of Project implementation, in particular the likely significant risks to the second two components and makes a series of recommendations for implementation of the proposed financial and information systems.
